Love your work, Fiona

There’s no doubting National Farmers’ Federation president Fiona Simson would be a valuable member of parliament and God knows we need people with integrity to stand, but she can do more good in her current role where she need not be caught up in the hurly-burly of day-to-day politics (“The good fight”, October 20-21). From my observations, the reality of the bear pit of politics is that everyone ends up getting pulled down.

Fiona Simson epitomises our unsung heroes. Custodians of the land, farmers are at the mercy of weather and the economy. Having grown up on a Riverland farm, I know farmers help each other and are the nation’s lifeblood but are undervalued. They are no-nonsense people of the elements and the earth.
