CUTTING Edge goes in hard with two hours of Jihad ( Tuesday, 8.30pm, SBS), a concentrated examination of modern Islamic groups. Using previously unseen footage and first- hand testimony from those who fought, planned, argued, met or lived with them, this is the inside story of al- Qa’ida’s three leaders: Osama bin Laden, Ayman alZawahiri and the recently killed Abu Musab al- Zarqawi. Two years in the making, this British film delivers extensive footage of bin Laden. Be warned that vivid images depict active combat, complete with dead bodies and the percussive sound of weapons fire. Hot Docs: Damages ( Tuesday, 11pm, SBS) follows the daily work of the lawyers of US insurance law firm Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder as they meet victims and their families to assess compensation payouts. Determining the value of lives lost in monetary terms is a calculating and stressful process, especially with more than $ 100 billion in personal injury compensation paid out in the US each year. As It Happened ’ s Umbrella Assassin ( Friday, 8.30pm, SBS) is an account of one of the most notorious Cold War attacks, the murder by ricin- tipped brolly of Bulgarian dissident Georgi Markov in London in 1978. While British and US scientists solved the forensic puzzle, the perpetrators have never been brought to justice. The prime suspect was released by Scotland Yard.
