The Weekend Australian - Review - - Tv - Ian Cuthbertson

Kick, 8pm, SBS It’s episode four of this locally produced televisual melting pot and things are very shrill. Sure, we find ourselves reflected in all our cultural diversity, but it’s hard to engage when the characters are so relentlessly frivolous. Even the death of a doctor’s patient and the awakening of lesbian feelings in another character are somehow weightless comic props. Thank heavens for the honed stand- up comic timing and natural presence of Anh Do as Hoa Tran. Mumbai Mega Flood, 8.30pm, National Geographic In July 2005, a month before Hurricane Katrina ripped through New Orleans, Mumbai, an Indian city of 85 million people, received the highest rainfall in its history, 944mm in 24 hours, and the resulting flood killed hundreds. This is the story of a flood that brought the world’s largest city to a grinding halt.
