Desperately Keeping Sheila, 7.30pm, SBS There’s a shortage of women in rural Australia. Two years ago the makers of this show took single women to isolated, lonely men and made the series Desperately Seeking Sheila. Well, you can lead a horse to water, but can you make it stay in the paddock? This explores how hard it can be to keep a woman on the land, even if she’s in love with her country man. CSI: NY, 8.30pm, Nine An episode called The Lying Game, which has more than a rhyme in common with the movie The Crying Game. So what’s a nice- looking drag queen doing dead in a men’s washroom? It seems someone may have become infuriated to find a less- than- real woman on his hands. As the pathologist says: ‘‘ A transgender showgirl found drowned in a public toilet: does it sound like love to you?’’ Also, Lindsay goes back to Montana to help put away a murderer who killed four of her friends. Surfing the Menu New Zealand, 9.30pm, LifeStyle Food The near ubiquitous Bender ( Ben O’Donoghue, pictured), also appearing at the moment in The Best in Australia, gets another run in this fourth season of Surfing the Menu with partner Mark Gardner. Bender may have created the first eternal cooking presence. At this rate he will be showing in repeats somewhere on cable television long after he’s gone. Still, the blokey banter and simple recipes are not without appeal.
