IT’S the end of the first week of the Tour de France and time for the ‘‘ mountain goats’’ in the field to take centre stage for the maillot jaune ( yellow jersey) as the race heads into the alps. Tonight’s stage from Bourg- enBresse to Le Grand Bornand includes a solid 16km climb over the Col de la Colombiere. Catch the action with Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen’s call of the race on SBS from 10pm. Tomorrow’s eighth stage is even tougher on the riders, with three major climbs before they reach Tignes. The action gets under way at 10.30pm. Aren’t those Geelong Cats just purring in the AFL, with talk already of a grand final appearance in September. But first they will have to get the better of Collingwood at the MCG today, showing on Ten from 2pm. Sydney and Brisbane viewers will get the Swans- Carlton game from the SCG live on Seven from 1pm tomorrow, while Melbourne and Adelaide viewers can tune in to the Hawthorn- Richmond clash from 3pm. For readers who follow the Tri Nations rugby union, spare a thought for the Springboks, who face the daunting task of tackling the All Blacks at Jade Stadium in Christchurch today. The kickoff is slated for 5.30pm on Fox Sports 2, and that will be followed by more of the Asian Cup soccer, with Uzbekistan facing Malaysia from 8pm, to be followed by Saudi Arabia against cohosts Indonesia. Tomorrow night again features a doubleheader from 8pm, starting with China against Iran.
