The Weekend Australian - Review - - Tv - Ian Cuthbertson

Collectors, 8pm, ABC Normally put together in Tasmania, Collectors is on tour and comes to you tonight from the State Library of Victoria. So what’s in store? Wrestling masks, telephonic treasures, a collector’s collector who seems to be into doll’s houses, while hosts Andy and Nicole get up close and personal with Ned Kelly. Wife Swap, 8.30pm, LifeStyle There are so many series of this show, made on both sides of the Atlantic and shown on free- to- air as well as pay TV here, that it’s hard to know what you’ve seen and what you’ve missed. For the record, this is British series five, episode one. It features Carrie and John Harris, who live on an estate in Lancashire with their two children. Bridget and Mike Baker live on a farm in Northampton, also with two kids. Things don’t go well when the wives swap families. ‘‘ I’m getting me stuff and I’m goin’ ’ ome,’’ yells Carrie quite early on. ‘‘ I’d rather commit f--- ing suicide than stay here for 10 days.’’ Oh dear. As It Happened: Fidel Castro, 8.30pm, SBS For the leader of a tiny Caribbean country, the influence of Fidel Castro ( pictured) on the rest of the world has been huge. Is he a ruthless dictator, a champion of social justice or, as he prefers to be known, a Marxist Leninist? The beginning of this wellmade two- part series tonight examines Castro’s early life, ending just after the failed CIA- managed Bay of Pigs invasion.
