QUICK BITES

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Tv - Ian Cuthbertson

Unlikely Travellers, 8pm, ABC The plot here is to take six people with psychiatric or intellectual difficulties out of their comfort zone and make world travellers of them. The idea more broadly is to break down barriers and prejudices against people with mental disabilities, whom communities still tend to see as dangerous. The problem is that in a seven- week process, 20 finalists have made it through to this round, but only six can hit the road. In tonight’s debut Selection episode we mostly see the winners, not the devastation of those left behind. Ever Wondered About Food, 9pm, LifeStyle Food For the debut of the fifth series, join host Paul Merrett, pictured, as he delves into history and attempts to convey an understanding of the science of food, so your cooking can become something special. Tonight, what does tea offer the cook, apart from a nice little break in proceedings? How about tea- smoked chicken, green tea ice- cream and a classic high tea with scones, jam and lashings of clotted cream? Weeds, 11.05pm, Nine Don’t be put off ( or turned on) by the idea of a conservative woman who grows and deals marijuana but doesn’t smoke it. Sure, it is the central theme, but there is so much more to Weeds than weed. Like Brothers & Sisters , it’s a saga of family and friends that descends into soapy water occasionally, but more often it steps up to the plate with a believable and quirky ensemble of engaging characters and plots.
