Facility is offering a safe haven for thousands

LOCATED just 40 minutes from Brisbane on the Coomera River at the entrance to the Gold Coast Marine Precinct Queensland, GCMC is an extensive privately Australian owned and operated marine facility.

The Gold Coast Marine Centre ( GCMC) was established in 2002 to service the 28,400 vessels currently registered and located in the area,’’ says GCMC’s general manager Mr Colin Speairs.

GCMC covers some 23 acres while offering boat owners an excellent choice when it comes to comprehensive vessel maintenance and repair requirements, receiving vessels from all over Australia as well as from overseas.

Over recent years, the length, opulence and value of vessels has increased dramatically within the region, with new vessel registra- tions running Speairs.

Facilities include a 70- tonne capacity boat lift that caters for vessels with a beam up to 20ft, specialised Multi- Hull hydraulic trailers which enable the safe haul out of side beam catamarans and houseboats.

‘‘ The open hardstand and wash down bays occupy some 17,000 square metres of service area, with all hardstand areas serviced by power ( including three phase) and water,’’ says Mr Speairs.

Enclosed refit bays 22m in length by 12m wide with a height of 10m are also offered to customers, allowing refit work to be carried out in a controlled environment.

A dedicated sandblasting bay is also available for all abrasive work carried out on

at 1000

says Mr vessels. Many trade services are available from within the facility, from routine maintenance through to complete rebuilds and refits.

Mr Speairs points out that marine manufacturing is also a large part of the centre’s tenancy.

He says there are 32 purpose built factories ranging in size from 180sqm through to 350sqm.

‘‘ Stage three of the centre’s development will commence shortly with the provision of further marine service building units along with some further manufacturing factory units as well,’’ he adds.

Planning is well underway for the construction of a 300- boat dry rack storage facility on the northern boundary of the development.
