The Truth About Binge Drinking, 7.30pm, Ten
Worthy topic, but this dreadful British program misses the point by a country mile as it attempts to measure the harm done to a woman who agrees to drink at binge rates for 30 days. Why do people binge drink? What social pressures lead to the behaviour, especially among young people? No answers here.
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, 9.10pm, UKTV
Enjoyable British sitcom filmed in front of an audience, set in the town of Runcorn, Cheshire, about five working- class 20- somethings. Great performances and sassy direction, but the characters are like younger versions of the people in The Royle Family . Bored, broke and, in one case, reluctantly just engaged, tonight three of the five apply for the same job as a barmaid in a pub. A chorus of approval swells from the audience as one of the lasses sinks what looks like a real pint in seconds flat. Ecky thump, lad, yer favourite show’s on telly.
30 Rock, 11.30pm, Seven
Would- be renters will appreciate the pre- credits gag here, in which new partners, 30 Rock ‘‘ law stylist’’ Floyd ( Jason Sudeikis) and Liz ( show creator Tina Fey, pictured) almost agree on an incredibly expensive new apartment, essentially because Floyd is a shoo- in for a promotion at the firm. But they are pipped at the post by a rich Arab who needs extra room for his son’s motorcycles. ‘‘ Thanks for coming,’’ says the agent, beaming, snatching the lease agreement back. When Floyd misses out on the promotion, and after a hobo on the streets of New York spits right into Liz’s mouth, they consider moving to Cleveland.
