The Godfather: The Life of Brian Burke

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Books -

By Quentin Beresford Allen & Unwin, 294pp, $ 35 AT any other time Alan Carpenter would probably have welcomed this book, but its appearance on the eve of the West Australian election was not the best timing for the Premier. There is a great deal in Quentin Beresford’s book about the way political influence peddling works in the west, especially in the Labor Party. This makes it a good read for anybody interested in Australian politics and it is an essential one for anybody who says there is no need for an independent corruption commission in every state and territory.
