Sex Work & Me: Red Light Conversations

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Friday, 9.30pm, ABC2 I love the phrase ‘‘ red light conversations’’. It sounds like a great title for a novel or the lyrics to a song by Sting. But of course it’s ABC2’s sleazy Friday night offering for this week. The action takes place in Amsterdam, in one of the world’s only legal red-light districts, where the history of prostitution goes back centuries. Every year, prostitution attracts millions of visitors to the city. This documentary won’t be everyone’s cup of late-night latte. But however you view the subject matter, this is a compelling portrait of what’s often called the world’s oldest profession on the brink of its possible demise. The documentary aims to draw back the curtain on Amsterdam’s world of paid sex at a time when the future of the city’s red light district hangs in the balance.
