The one-off documentary investigates the persuasive propaganda job perpetrated on the German people by the Nazis in the long lead-up to the Holocaust. Peter Black of the US Holocaust Memorial Museum expresses the essence of the campaign. ‘‘ How could a group of people be so hated and seen as so dangerous that they had to be eliminated from the face of the earth?’’ he asks. When the Nazis came to power in 1933, the most radical elements wanted to expunge the Jews overnight. Almost immediately, they began to legislate against Jews, who were systematically dismissed from ordinary jobs as well as from positions in medicine, education, law and the civil service.
