Sun­day, 9am, ABC1 Does it make you tragic if In­sid­ers is the high­light of your week­end? No, it makes you as­tute. The pro­gram, hosted by ABC stal­wart Bar­rie Cas­sidy, fea­tures in­formed po­lit­i­cal com­ment from mem­bers of a ro­tat­ing ros­ter of jour­nal­ists chaired by Cas­sidy, as well as weekly spe­cial guests, usu­ally politi­cians. The point is to re­view the pre­vi­ous week in pol­i­tics and also to look ahead at what ram­i­fi­ca­tions events of the week may have. The jour­nal­is­tic sta­ble in­cludes The Aus­tralian ’s Ge­orge Me­ga­lo­ge­nis and Niki Savva as well as David Marr, Laura Tin­gle, Jac­que­line Maley, Annabel Crabb and Mal­colm Farr. The com­men­tary is of­ten in­ci­sive and fresh, and the ban­ter be­tween jour­nal­ists can be comedic or down­right con­fronta­tional, de­pend­ing on who is on the panel and whether hot but­tons are pushed. For me the truly un­miss­able part is the col­lage at the be­gin­ning of the most no­table clips from the week, of­ten mashed up over an eerily rel­e­vant con­tem­po­rary pop song.
