At The Movies
Wednesday, 10.10pm, ABC1 Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton remain Australia’s most watchable and most watched movie critics. In tonight’s episode they cast their critical eyes over new films including Taken 2, a sequel to the 2008 Liam Neeson abduction vehicle. Will it just be more of the same or will it shrug off sequel syndrome? (A look at Stephen Fitzpatrick’s interview with Famke Janssen on page 15 may help you get ahead of the game.) Local interest will come in the form of the pair’s verdict on Lawless, a gangster film with a screenplay by Nick Cave. Based on the historical novel The Wettest County in the World, by Matt Bondurant, the film’s stars include Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy and Guy Pearce. Then there’s Mental, the new film of suburban angst that pairs writer-director P. J. Hogan with Toni Collette for the first time since Muriel’s Wedding.
