Sunday Best: Six Million Dollar Conman

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Sunday, 8.30pm, ABC2 This long-running series has been a highlight on an increasingly interesting channel. Sunday night is home for the game-changing, genre-altering, thought-provoking feature documentary, and tonight from Britain’s Channel 4 comes a riveting true-crime story, directed and produced by Louise Osmond. She documents the many lives of the man born as Christian Gerhartsreiter, a poor country boy from Bavaria who in relentlessly pursuing the American dream to reach the upper echelons of American society became Clark Rockefeller. He was also America’s most notorious con man and is now awaiting trial for murder. Documenting this astonishing story of deceit, fraud and manipulation, Osmond gained access to the FBI, police detectives, former friends of the con artist and other key players close to the case. insatiable thirst for distraction as the drab virtual world takes us over. It is easy to imagine a universe where TV talent shows are our only escape and in this terrific satire we drones desperately accumulate credits to achieve the ultimate goal: a slot on an X-Factor- like talent competition.
