Auction Room

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Sunday, 6pm, ABC1 This new series continues this week, hosted by affable antiques dealer Gordon Brown, formerly of ABC’s popular Collectors. Like that show, it’s set in the burgeoning auction room genre as Brown investigates the provenance of objects and collections and follows them to the competitive event itself. The quirky series celebrates those who collect things — once regarded as lonely, sometimes pathological eccentrics — for expressing a powerful communal drive in an increasingly solitary age. To judge from those appearing on the show, serious collecting is a rewarding way of understanding a bewildering world and finding one’s place in it. This week it’s all about cars: muscle cars, modified cars, restored cars and original cars.
