American Pickers

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Friday, 8.30pm, A&E Relax, there is not a banjo in sight in the new series of pop culture archeologists Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz’s adventures in junk hunting. Or, as they put it, ‘‘ telling the history of America one piece at a time’’. Quite. This week they are hunting down a rare motorcycle and a warehouse, stuffed with stuff, including 500,000 cardboard cylinders used to transport World War II hand grenades, something no collector should be without. If you love home clearance sales and fossicking in auction rooms you already know this pair. If you don’t, you need to because they prove what you do is not just a hobby, it’s recording history. But what about the bike, a VW engine in a 1942 Harley-Davidson frame? If you don’t care you are surely no picker.
