The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Wednesday, 7.30pm, Discovery In case you haven’t noticed, it’s the Discovery Channel’s annual Shark Week, and if, ahem, quick bites are all you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. In this teacup-shallow documentary, videographers high-five each other and yell their pleasure at catching vision of sharks flying up into the air to snarf down living creatures. There is no ecology angle, no save the sharks mentality, no tally of dead and injured swimmers, just these majestic creatures tricked into baring their overbites for the cameras and performing like seals for the amusement of yahooing yokels in boats. Narrow escapes, wind of the jaws, that kind of thing. Hey, this is the 25th anniversary of Shark Week, which began in 1988. Time to party, right? If they say so.
