Rick Stein’s Spanish Christmas

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Tuesday, 8.30pm, ABC1 Can you get too much of a good thing? This week we are also treated to Rick Stein’s Cornish Christmas, again, on pay-TV. Don’t get me wrong, I think Stein is one of the best television chefs. It’s just that he is a tad overexposed. Though not yet in Stephen Fry’s league, there sure has been a lot of Stein on the box lately. The good news, as Stein watchers will have guessed, is that this follows on directly from the recent ABC series A Taste of Spain. In fact, it is a Christmas party at Stein’s London base for all the people who took part in the Spanish series. Now don’t wince like that. It does sound self-indulgent but I promise you won’t be made to feel like a child peering through the window as the clever, rich people chow down. Stein says you will learn to cook Spanish dishes that will be perfect during the Christmas break. Good heavens, is that the Spanish ambassador? You know, until this moment I hadn’t realised quite what a Spanish-sounding word ambassador is. Ole!
