The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Sunday, 10.20pm, ABC1 When our arts writer Tim Douglas flew to the Middle East recently to meet performance artist Marina Abramovic, he was feted on his return as if he had touched the hand of a god. One arts maven of long standing tweeted that his cool factor had increased a billion-fold. If you haven’t heard of Abramovic and would like to know what all the fuss is about, or even if you are well aware of her work and have followed each twist and turn across the past 40 years, this stunning feature-length documentary will not disappoint. With terrific access to the artist and great interview material with family and team members, art critics and friends, it follows Abramovic as she prepares for a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. ‘‘ There are many Marinas,’’ the artist says at one point. After this documentary you will feel as if you have met most of them.
