River Cottage Christmas Special
Saturday, 6pm, ABC1 Yes, I know, we went large on Christmas food programs last week. But man about the cottage Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, whose one-off Christmas special airs this week, deserves not to be missed simply because he brings a thoroughly different perspective to festive season cooking. Fearnley-Whittingstall has made a living out of growing his own produce and cooking it on TV, so he does a great line in making Christmas accessible for vegetarians as well as carnivores. He tells us at the beginning that he is determined to include some delicious twists and turns among the festive favourites, and he does. Tune in as Hugh and the River Cottage gang cook up a feast fit for a king. Hugh goes crackers about nuts, and his mate Tim goes into the wild wood in search of a beast for the feast. Ooh, look — scrumptious canapes made from the laird’s favourite vegetables.
