Real Humans

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Saturday, 9.35pm, SBS One Two weeks ago, during episode three of this Swedish science fiction series about androids, I fell in love with it. The loose ends began to tidy themselves up. And what looked at first like holes in the plot revealed themselves to be fragments of a pleasing and complex structure. It includes a group of people who hate hubots so much they want them stamped out — completely. But they have been infiltrated by a sophisticated hubot who eats and drinks to prove her humanity, then heads to the bathroom where she removes what looks like a condom the length of a snake to purge herself. We have a troupe of wild hubots on the run trying to gather strength and purpose in the attic of a lesbian vicar’s farmhouse, a Blade Runner- esque hubot black market; and a woman lawyer working on the case of civil rights for hubots and those who love them. Count me in.
