Monty Halls’ Island Escape

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Friday, 7.30pm, SBS One In last week’s debut, English marine biologist and television presenter Monty Halls travelled to the far north of Scotland to become a voluntary wildlife ranger. Accompanied only by his trusty mutt Reuben, Halls was left gobsmacked by the beauty of the environment and the warm welcome of the island’s residents. Tonight the beauty continues as our man and his dog take seriously their roles as protectors of the marine environment and the stunning coast. Naturally the pigs and the turkeys acquired in last week’s episode have already grown substantially. The pigs are supposed to be for bacon — one of them is even named Streaky — but Halls is frank about his absolute failure to not get attached. I suppose in some future episode we will witness the conflict of this man, who cares so considerably for the environment and all of its creatures, when he has to slaughter his own pigs.
