Baking Made Easy

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Wednesday, 8.30pm, LifeStyle Food Chef, baker and patissier Lorraine Pascale used to be a model. When she gave up the catwalk, the still attractive black woman tells us she tried her hand at all kinds of things, including being a car mechanic and an interior designer. Then she found cooking, and wham bam, her own show. Who said it doesn’t pay to be good-looking if you want a career in TV? All right, Pascale trained as a chef so she has as much right as anyone to host her own show. First up, the quickest and easiest thing she knows how to bake — parmesan and poppyseed lollipops. Pascale admits they sound crazy but is certain they are the perfect canape. At least they look edible. Then there’s her soda bread — no kneading, no rising. Or what about her blueberry and lemon cream mille-feuille, followed by infallible shortcrust pastry for a fig, cream cheese and mint tart. But wait, there’s more. For the big finish, her ‘‘ I can’t believe you made that’’ chocolate cake, because that’s exactly what people say. I can’t believe it either.
