Thursday, 8.30pm, Discovery Though not a patch on Prohibition, the masterful Ken Burns documentary series shown on SBS in September, How Booze Built America is nonetheless an interesting take on the nation-building capacity of booze. Hosted by Mike Rowe, Discovery’s man for all seasons, it features a fourth-wall breaking humour that undercuts the seriousness of the topic. We begin with a re-enactment of Lexington, one of the first battles of the American Revolution, in 1775. ‘‘ These men are facing down 700 of the world’s best trained troops, even though we only had wardrobe for 20,’’ says Rowe.
