The Queen’s Diamond Decades

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Monday, 8.30pm, History Like sands through the hour glass, so are the decades of Her Majesty’s life. In this episode, the 1980s. Oh, look, there’s the very young Charles and Di, pretending to be hopelessly in love. And there’s the princess overwhelmed before she found her feet, dubbed as ‘‘ shy Di’’ by the British press. I have no recall of Her Majesty being astride her beloved mount Burmese during a Queen’s Birthday ride past along Horse Guards Parade in 1981 when shots rang out. A teenage nutter, apparently shooting blanks. Of course the Queen remained calm and composed, even reaching down to give old Burmese a reassuring pat. But how dangerous could that have been?
