The Valley of the Kings

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Sunday, 7.30pm, SBS One I always wanted to ride into the Valley of the Kings so, on holiday a few years ago, I obtained a horse after much argy-bargy. But struck down by Tutankhamen’s revenge, I barely made it in — by bus. This extraordinary ancient civilisation continues to fascinate generations; in the first three months of last year more than 2.5 million tourists visited Egypt but political unrest has seen numbers fall. British Egyptologist Jo Fletcher has built a career from exploring the rituals and culture of these ancient people. Tonight she introduces us to married couple Kha and Meryt, who’ve been dead for about 3500 years. By examining their mummies she’s able to tell the story of daily life back then.
