The True Story: Star Trek

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Saturday, 7.30pm, ABC2 This series looks at the lives and stories behind Hollywood blockbusters. Tonight it focuses on this sci-fi phenomenon and the most successful franchise in history: Star Trek. The origins of this multi-billion-dollar business and cult phenomenon can be traced back to one man — Los Angeles cop Gene Roddenberry. As the world of television blossomed in the 1950s, Roddenberry began writing scripts for police dramas, before hitting on a groundbreaking new idea: Star Trek. Producer Herb Solow, Roddenberry’s son, Rod, and the original Mr Spock, Leonard Nimoy, chart the series’ meteoric rise to fame. A must for all Trekkies.
