The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Monday, 8.30pm, Showcase Just as he did with The West Wing, which ended with a Latino president in the White House long before many people had heard of Barack Obama, Aaron Sorkin hits on themes in The Newsroom that have an eerie connection with the here and now. This second series examines the team’s airing of a false story that claimed US troops used sarin gas in a hostage rescue. The fallout threatens to destroy the TV station, but the owner, Leona Lansing (Jane Fonda), orders the News Night team led by host Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and news chief Charlie Skinner (Sam Waterston) to undo the damage and win back viewers’ trust. Tonight, in part one, they take up the challenge with feisty coverage of the US presidential election.
