Roman Polanski: Odd Man Out

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Sunday, 8.30pm, ABC2 Back in 1977, Samantha Geimer, then 13, was drugged and raped by film director Roman Polanski, who’d convinced her mother to let him photograph the teenager for Paris Vogue. When charged he pleaded guilty but fled to Europe before being sentenced. A documentary by Marina Zenovich highlighting misconduct by the trial judge and prosecutor won an award in 2008 and Polanski went to Switzerland to be honoured at the Zurich Film Festival, but he was arrested at the airport. This is Zenovich’s take on what happened during the next nine months while the Swiss authorities decided whether to extradite Polanski to the US. It includes an interview with Geimer, who clearly wishes everyone would back off and move on.
