Sun­day, 10.30pm, SBS This 90-minute doc­u­men­tary, made in 2007 by Os­car-win­ning di­rec­tor Kevin Macdon­ald, ex­plores the ca­reer of Gestapo com­man­der and Nazi war crim­i­nal Klaus Bar­bie —‘‘the Butcher of Lyon’’ — who had a par­tic­u­lar pen­chant for hunt­ing and mur­der­ing mem­bers of the French Re­sis­tance. He was re­cruited by Amer­i­can counter-in­tel­li­gence dur­ing the Cold War and later, in Bo­livia, he had re­mark­able suc­cess re­viv­ing the for­tunes of other ex-Nazis. But he even­tu­ally lost the sup­port of the Bol­vian gov­ern­ment and in 1983 was ex­tra­dited to France, where he was con­victed of war crimes and died in prison aged 77.
