Little Miss Sunshine Saturday, 8.30pm, Romance Movies

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Television -

Well it just proves it can be done. This sweet comedy-drama took 30 days to make back in 2006 on a budget of $US8 million. It went on to win critical acclaim, was nominated for four Academy Awards and grossed about $US100.5m at the international box office. Sheryl (Toni Collette) and Richard Hoover (Greg Kinnear) and assorted dysfunctional family members drive 1200km in their banged-up van to a Little Miss Sunshine beauty contest in California so their daughter Olive (Abigail Breslin), seven, can perform. When to everyone’s shock she does a burlesque number taught her by her grandfather all hell breaks loose. The police are called and the family is warned never to come back.
