The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - David Stratton

Everest (M) Visually magnificent — with 3-D, for once, enhancing the photographic grandeur — this story of the ill-fated attempt to climb to the summit of the world’s highest mountain in May 1996 is more successful as a vividly realistic depiction of the climbing process than it is as a personal story, despite an unusually strong cast that includes several Australians (Jason Clarke, playing New Zealander Rob Hall, Sam Worthington and Elizabeth Debicki). The women who wait (Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, Emily Watson) for the climbers’ return are effective in undemanding roles. Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur is in his element.
