Australian String Quartet: Transcend The ASQ ends its 30th anniversary program with a concert that includes the first Australian performances of Brett Dean’s And Once I Played Ophelia, with guest soprano Allison Bell. The quartet also performs Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, written when the composer was terminally ill, ending the piece in a frenzied rush which is reflected in the music; and Juan Crisostomo de Arriaga’s String Quartet No 3, written when the composer was only 16. Gandel Hall, National Gallery of Australia, Parkes Place, Canberra. November 1, 2pm. Tickets: $30$65. Bookings: (02) 6240 6701.
