Aus­tralian String Quar­tet: Tran­scend The ASQ ends its 30th an­niver­sary pro­gram with a con­cert that in­cludes the first Aus­tralian per­for­mances of Brett Dean’s And Once I Played Ophe­lia, with guest so­prano Allison Bell. The quar­tet also per­forms Schu­bert’s Death and the Maiden, writ­ten when the com­poser was ter­mi­nally ill, end­ing the piece in a fren­zied rush which is re­flected in the mu­sic; and Juan Crisostomo de Ar­riaga’s String Quar­tet No 3, writ­ten when the com­poser was only 16.
