Collection+: Christian Thompson Indigenous artist Christian Thompson explores the intersection of art and fashion in this multimedia exhibition, which mixes original art with key works from the Gene & Brian Sherman collection. Thompson was one of the first Aboriginal students to attend Oxford University on the Charles Perkins scholarship and is known for his abstract selfportrait photographs, which explore the ideas of indigenous iconography, colonialism, his mixed heritage and personal identity. A new sculptural work, All Revolutions are Led by the Young, is also featured in the exhibition. Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation, 16-20 Goodhope Street, Paddington. Wed-Sat, 11am-5pm. Inquiries: (02) 9331 1112 or online. Until December 12. The Alchemists: Rediscovering Photography in the Age of the Jpeg In the era of the camera phone, anyone can take a quick snap — but few can manually capture, process and develop an image from start to finish. In this exhibition, 25 artists from New Zealand, Japan, Thailand and Australia demonstrate the resurgence in experimental darkroom processing that has melded the analog and digital forms of photography.

Sam Buckingham-Jones Australian Centre for Photography, 257 Oxford Street, Paddington. Opens Friday. Inquiries: (02) 9332 0555. Until December 6.
