The Killer Years Saturday, 9.40pm, BBC Knowledge (612)

For some odd reason this is the second episode in this series while the first episode screens tomorrow night. Not that it seems to matter. Tonight’s show tells the story of the extreme performance cars (called Group B) that proved hugely popular in the 1980s until several horrific accidents called a halt to the mayhem. Until then, it was an exciting, daredevil sport that led companies such as Lancia, Peugeot, Audi and later Ford to produce ever more powerful cars in he race to be world champion. Sunday night’s episode goes back to the 60s and 70s, when so many Grand Prix drivers died in accidents that drivers started a campaign to put safety first.
