It’s hard to avoid the plethora of programs on travel, food, sport and Christmas cheer at this time of year. Even more of a challenge is finding one you haven’t seen before. Hawaii is on my bucket list, but this two-part documentary goes beyond the scenery and the shopping. In fact it makes Hawaii out to be a somewhat spooky destination, given it’s home to Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, mega waves and alarming fauna. Tonight the first of two episodes looks at how the archipelago morphed from barren wasteland to a tropical paradise where 95 per cent of the flora is unique.
