The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - David Stratton

Brooklyn (M) Irish director John Crowley’s adaptation of Colm Toibin’s novel is about a young and unsophisticated girl from Ireland, beautifully played by Saoirse Ronan, who emigrates to America in the early 1950s and finds herself conflicted between her old home and her new home, and between a charming Italian-American (Emory Cohen) and an equally charming Irishman (Domhnall Gleeson). There’s strong support from a fine cast including Julie Walters as the bossy landlady of a women-only establishment.
