The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - David Stratton

Triple 9 (MA15+) An Atlanta-set thriller about crooked cops working for the Russian mafia, this is a frenetic, at times barely comprehensible, effort from Australian director John Hillcoat. A distinguished cast helps: Casey Affleck as one of the few honest cops on view, Kate Winslet as the ruthless Russian matriarch, Chiwetel Ejiofor as one of the many bad guys. But much of the dialogue is as incomprehensible as the plot and the frenzied camerawork is not helpful. Hillcoat stages a couple of fine scenes of suspense, but they’re not enough.
