Memories of the Struggle: Australians Against Apartheid This exhibition explores Australia’s involvement in the struggle to end apartheid in South Africa, focusing on the context and timeline of the anti-apartheid movement and highlighting the memories of those involved. From as early as 1950, Australian trade unions, the government, sporting icons, musicians and many individuals took part in the fight for justice in South Africa. Bob Hawke said on launching the exhibition: “I want all Australians to share the pride that I feel because there is no doubt that Australia was significant in precipitating the end of apartheid, and there is nothing in my prime ministership of which I am more proud.” Museum of Australian Democracy. 18 King George Terrace, Parkes, Canberra.
