The Idea of North ARIA award-win­ning a cap­pella en­sem­ble the Idea of North is tour­ing na­tion­ally in sup­port of its 13th al­bum, Bal­lads. Founded in Can­berra in 1993, the group com­prises Sally Cameron (so­prano), Naomi Crellin (alto), Nick Beg­bie (tenor) and Andrew Piper (bass). Bal­lads fea­tures rein­ven­tions of songs by artists such as Sting, Cold Chisel, Sarah McLach­lan and the Bee Gees. Col­lab­o­ra­tions on the al­bum in­clude Aus­tralian jazz singer Kristin Ber­ardi lead­ing on her own com­po­si­tion Ode to Oli and Kaichiro Ki­ta­mura, Ja­panese vo­cal per­cus­sion­ist.
