(M) A dour feature debut from Piero Messina in which Juliette Binoche plays a woman mourning the death of her son in a remote Sicilian villa and who is unable to tell the son’s girlfriend (Lou de Laage), who turns up on a visit, the truth. Loosely based on a Pirandello story, the film is beautifully crafted and consummately acted, but it’s all pretty hollow and terribly contrived.
