Monday, 8.30pm, Nine

Sarah Lambert’s period hospital series has returned and what a delight to see local drama on Nine again, the third season actually devised and early episodes written by Tim Pye with stylish direction from Geoff Bennett. It’s a show that looks at the way Australia embraced the dramatic social and cultural changes of the 1970s as new love, births, deaths and marriages continue to come to Sydney’s Kings Cross. In the new season the Vietnam War is dividing the world, and music and the media are shifting long-held values. Lambert and her writers present a perfectly realised social melodrama with characters who, no matter how they pursue wealth and power, discover that true fulfilment only comes through love, loyalty and compassion.
