Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera This ex­hi­bi­tion from the Jac­ques and Natasha Gel­man Col­lec­tion shines a light on the cel­e­brated Mex­i­can artist cou­ple Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, fea­tur­ing more than 30 art­works by Rivera and Kahlo along­side 50 pho­to­graphs track­ing the artists’ lives from 1911 through to the 1950s, as well as silent movie ex­cerpts and a se­lec­tion of Kahlo’s let­ters. Among the trove of in­ti­mate, vivid pho­to­graphs, most on loan from New York’s Throck­mor­ton Fine Art and never be­fore seen in Aus­tralia, are can­did shots of Frida, from mar­riage to deathbed, by em­i­nent pho­tog­ra­phers of the day, rang­ing from ex-lover Nick­o­las Mu­ray, Bernard Sil­ber­stein and Ed­ward We­ston to Lola Al­varez Bravo.
