Next month, David Robert­son will con­duct three sep­a­rate per­for­mances of bal­let scores that Stravin­sky com­posed for Di­aghilev’s Bal­lets Russes. In the first recital, Pri­mal, the Syd­ney Sym­phony Or­ches­tra will play Stravin­sky’s Rite of Spring as well as Steve Re­ich’s Desert Mu­sic. OUR Land Peo­ple Sto­ries Each of the three works in Ban­garra’s OUR Land Peo­ple Sto­ries en­larges our un­der­stand­ing of con­nec­tion with the land, learn­ing from the past and the en­dur­ing power of sto­ry­telling. In a se­ries of short, sur­real and highly evoca­tive scenes, Macq re­lives a mas­sacre of in­dige­nous Aus­tralians in NSW or­dered by gover­nor Lach­lan Mac­quarie. Beau Dean Ri­ley Smith and Daniel Ri­ley to­gether cre­ated Miya­gan, which shows a kin­ship sys­tem re­claim­ing young peo­ple. Stephen Page’s homage to Arn­hem Land artist Nya­pa­nyapa Yunupingu, Nya­pa­nyapa, is won­drously multi-lay­ered.
