The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - Stephen Romei

Star Trek Beyond (M) This is the third feature film reboot of the deep space saga that launched with Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979. The director is Justin Lin, who made four of the Fast and Furious movies. This is the sort of reboot I like because it’s there for everyone. Star Trek devotees will have their specialised views on its place in the 13-film universe but average viewers will not feel marooned. The banter between crew members is respectful, clever and humorous. Like the best superhero franchises, Star Trek knows how to make fun of itself. There’s not much character development. Kirk has father issues but it’s not taken far. Star Trek Beyond is an uncomplicated and enjoyable reboot of an entertainment franchise that has been with us for a long time. Maggie’s Plan
