The Aus­tralian Mu­sic Week con­fer­ence and show­case event has been tak­ing place in Syd­ney this week and it’s also Aus­tralian Mu­sic Month on the ABC, so it seems like a good time to take stock of just what cul­tural and eco­nomic value there is in the vast ar­ray of tal­ent we ex­port around the world. Aus­tralian artists such as Flume, Sia and Tame Im­pala are just three among many who are kick­ing goals in­ter­na­tion­ally. To that end a sur­vey is un­der way and will run for the next three years to de­ter­mine just how cru­cial is our mu­si­cal out­put to the lo­cal econ­omy and as a stim­u­lat­ing art form.
