Circus

The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - Deborah Jones

Bobby Darin’s songs give biomusical Dream Lover a solid base but his life clinches the deal. Darin (played here by David Campbell) grew up in a loving family that had big secrets. He was politically active, married Sandra Dee, headlined at the swankiest nightclubs, enjoyed success as a film actor, had a career slump and a revival, and died at 37. Obviously there’s a lot to know and the Dream Lover set-up is promising. A thrilling 18-piece band is arrayed showroomstyle on three levels as Darin’s life is seen through the lens of a dying man’s memories. Sydney Lyric Theatre, Pirrama Road. Today, 2pm and 8pm. Kooza Simplicity is a relative term in the Cirque du Soleil universe, but Kooza comes close to providing the old-fashioned enjoyment that used to be associated with the circus. There are no animals, of course, but Kooza does feature a man in an excellent, fully functional dog suit (those in the front row beware). A narrative of sorts
