The Weekend Australian - Review - - Out & About - David Stratton

I, Daniel Blake (MA15+) Eighty-year-old British director Ken Loach’s latest portrait of a working-class hero won the coveted Palme d’Or at Cannes this year and is one of his finest films. Set in the northern city of Newcastle, it’s the story of a widower, played beautifully by Dave Johns, and his struggles with the bureaucrats of the welfare department. It’s a film that shines a light on the human faces behind the unemployment and welfare statistics, and is a profoundly moving experience.
