Animated cops hit the spot
Pacific Heat This 13-part animated comedy series is from the indefatigable award-winning Working Dog team of Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner, Rob Sitch and Michael Hirsh, the production company that just can’t help dreaming up new and even more original TV series to keep everyone laughing.
They are, of course, responsible for incredibly popular TV series such as Frontline, Thank God You’re Here, The Panel, The Hollowmen and Utopia.
And this very funny, pulpy little show is another excursion into the always imperfect, chaotic, irregular and accidental character of the human condition.
Set against the sun-drenched paradise of the Gold Coast, the series is based on the exploits of an undercover special unit known as Pacific Heat established by police authorities to tackle everyone from international drug cartels and radical eco-extremists to notorious bikie gangs.
This covert squad of highly trained, heavily armed operatives does not officially exist. Unconventional, and with an arrest rate second to none, these guys are not afraid to operate outside the law — provided their intrepid leader doesn’t have to mess his immaculate coiffure.
He’s Special Agent Todd Sommerville (voiced by Sitch), a cop unconcerned with bending the rules; Special Agent Zac Valentic (Cilauro) is the tough man of the team; and special agents Maddie Riggs (Rebecca Massey) and Veronica “VJ” Delane (Lucia Mastrantone) are the brains and beauty of the team.
Sitch inevitably dominates, Sommerville another variation on his very funny stock character, full of same gormless naivety, his life a series of defeats, humiliations, pratfalls and disasters — but this time he’s carrying a gun. Sunday, 8pm, Comedy.
